Well, God is like a lot of things. For example, if you've ever had a dream of someone speaking to you, more often than not that person is going to be speaking to you in a language that you understand. God speaks to us that way, uses the languages and dialects we understand.
Another example of God is to look at a real good example of a responsible father. Your earthly father may not have been anyone's great model, but God is every good thing you imagine a father to be.
But no!, you say, what is God like as a spirit?
Oh, you mean, the Holy Spirit! well, He kind of shows up different to different people, but he always shows up with the same name. The name might be translated in a different language for each individual but the name still means He's God.
Ok, now you're stalling!
No, sorry! But I think you needed to read that for basic information.
Anyway, to know what the Holy Spirit is like, you have to first understand what any spirit is like, or more simply what is a spirit. A spirit is a being. A spirit does not possess a form like humans do. In Christianity, a person is taught that we are spirits, we possess souls and we live in a body. Think of it like your hand being the spirit and your gloves being your body.
A spirit is just like a person but without the limitations of having a body. Angels are spirits, but they do not need salvation like humans do because they do not need faith. Angels have already seen God. We need faith to see into the invisible world of spirits.
Spirits can think and have emotions. They communicate through speaking and using visual cues, sounds or smells. Only God knows our thoughts, that is why He can be closer and better than your closest brother or best friend. He won't turn his back on you, either. The devils and his demons can only tell what you are thinking by studying your habits. God can tell you what you are going to do in 10 seconds before you do it or even think it!
How does God think? Well, I can only tell you how I know He thinks by telling you what He has said to me. He always speaks the Word of God, the Bible the Scriptures, the Pentateuch, the Torah (not the Dead Sea Scrolls).
If you've ever or in the future ever get a chance to hear Him, you'll be surprised, taken aback or in awe of how closely He lines up with His own words. He has such integrity to remain faithful to what He has done and what He has said and said He will do, that your own line of thinking and the consensus of the present era will seem inferior and foreign to what you just heard. But if you've ever had a minuscule of Christian upbringing, you'll know that, some of the old ways of minding your ways, and the consensus of what the status quo should be are more in line with God's way of doing things.
The world has gotten more and more loose, lazy or irresponsible (I'm trying to find a stronger word that puts together all three) in defining what is right and what is wrong. Even though the times change, God and His Word does not change. He is able to speak to you in your modern-day dialect and use your unique colloquialisms but He will still express and remain faithful and true to what He said in the Bible.
